What to Do on a Holiday in Phuket

Phuket, an island in the Andaman Sea off the west coast of Thailand, boasts some of Thailand’s most beautiful beaches. The island is also home to many luxury resorts, many of which are located along the pristine waters of the Andaman Sea. Phuket Town, the largest town, also has busy streets and old shophouses. Patong, the largest of the Phuket islands, also has many discos, bars and nightclubs. There are cheap flights to Phuket all year round. However, summer is the time when Phuket hits the thrills with a number of premium beachfront resorts.

Among the most famous beaches in Phuket are Patong Beach, which is very famous for its long and spectacular stretch of white sandy beach, and Phuket Beach, which are regarded as Thailand’s most popular. Phuket Beach is usually crowded during the peak summer months, but does have some of the best beaches in Thailand during the winter and spring months. Despite the popularity of the two islands, many visitors do not make it down to Phuket despite its beachfront appeal. This is partly due to the language barrier and a lack of basic amenities at patong and Phuket hotels.

There are two main access points for tourists to reach Patong Beach and Phuket City: the bypass road and the Causeway Avenue. Both are extremely busy with vendors selling everything from food to electrical goods at low prices. Patong beach’s proximity to Phuket City makes it even busier. If you want to avoid the traffic on the way to the beach or do not want to deal with the vendors, you can just walk.

Phuket’s most famous beach, karon beach, is only accessible by taking a ferry from Phuket town. For a few dollars, you can travel to the small island of Koh Samui in Thailand. Koh Samui has a number of beautiful beaches including Patong beach, which is extremely popular with tourists. However, it is extremely difficult to get tickets to the popular karon beach during the peak season. Fortunately, there are ways around this issue:

First of all, it is very possible to get around Phuket by hiring a vehicle. You can either rent a car from your Phuket hotel or use your own. If you rent a car, you can pick up all your supplies at the Kata Noi beach parking lot. If you decide to walk to the Surin beach, which is approximately three miles away, you will need to pass through Phuket town to reach your hotel. There are also many buses that leave from Surin Beach to Phuket; however, these buses are not safe for tourists as they often have missing windows and other flaws.

If you have the time and the ability, you can even construct your own tent on the beach. The hardest part is constructing it, but it will be worth it once you are on the island. The two beaches of Phuket that I would recommend are Karon beach and Patong beach. Both of these beaches have different water views; however, Patong beach is much more populated. If you head to the southern most point of Phuket island, you will find the largest concentration of tourists on the island. Phuket is a wonderful place to spend an entire vacation, especially if you happen to be a beach bum like me.
